Sound Healing

Nourish and awaken the nervous system. Feel better. Think better. Connect better.

The Safe and Sound Protocol, or SSP,  is a non-invasive application of Polyvagal Theory, based on decades of research and developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, who has demonstrated that how our inner ear funcitons has a significant effect on our feelings of safety and connectedness to others.

Mammals, including humans, are wired to detect sounds of threat, which are in the very high range (think an eagle screeching) to the very low range (the rumbling of an earthquake). When we feel an approaching threat, we naturally turn to our connections with others for reassurance and support. We we do, they speak to us in modulated, mid-range tones – like the comforting sound of a mother cooing to her baby.

If we have lived with many unresolved traumas – traumas for which we had no caring connection to help us resolve – our inner ear muscles may have lost the ability to recognize and take in sounds of safety. Someone may speak to us in a reassuring way, but our inner ear muscles don’t absorb that and pass it to the brain in the same way. Thus, our systems continue to take in more and more sounds of threat, and fewer and fewer sounds of safety.

This is what the SSP was designed to bring back into balance. The SSP uses modulated music that intentionally heightens those sounds of safety, so that our ears and then our brains can receive them – thus retraining our systems to recognize and respond to sounds of safety rather than sounds of threat. We relax.

The SSP’s effectiveness has been proven in a wide range of studies, most notably in two clinical trials involving children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Trial participants demonstrated statistically significant improvements in:

  • Emotional control
  • Behavioral organization
  • Hearing sensitivity and listening

The SSP program, which is facilitated by qualified and certified professionals, employs a practical bottom-up approach to help people regulate their nervous system more consistently and independently.

Feel Better
Feel more safe, calm, grounded and resilient.
Feel less irritable, anxious and overwhelmed.

Think Better
Think more clearly, attentively, and creatively.
Think less rigidly, disorganized and distractible.

Connect Better
Connect more openly, genuinely and wholly.
Connect less guardedly, distantly and oppositionally.

Nourish the nervous system safely and conveniently.

One SSP, 3 Pathways: Connect, Core, Balance

The complete SSP program comprises 3 main pathways that are accessible through and facilitated by a qualified and certified professional.

Each of the SSP pathways is composed of different filtered, unfiltered and calming 5-hour music playlists for either children or adults.

The SSP pathways are designed to help the nervous system to better receive, process and respond to the cues and signals from the world around us. This helps us learn how to more easily and consistently feel better regulated in the face of life’s challenges.

The SSP is accessed through an App, and can be used in my office or in the comfort of your own home.
