Trauma Therapy

The bowl at the top of this page is an example of “kintsugi” - a Japanese technique for repairing broken items.

Rather than try to camouflage the repair, this technique uses precious metal powder, such as gold, silver, or platinum.

The result is unique and beautiful - just like you.

Like many things, trauma experiences can be thought of as being on a continuum. At one end you might have a small startle, while at the other would be the terrifying events that result in PTSD's persistent, intense impacts. Yet even the 'small startle' traumas can have lasting effects.

Our reactions to trauma - intrusive thoughts, emotions, body sensations, memories, flashbacks and nightmares - are our physical, mental and emotional selves reacting automatically to keep us safe by alerting us to danger.

While our body's automatic reaction to a threatening event, such as fighting, fleeing or freezing, may have been useful and necessary in the moment, it is not helpful when it persists. Imagine if you turned on the fire hose to put out a fire and then left it on for the rest of your life. You would flood the area (too many emotions and thoughts flooding you) and likely eventually run out of water (energy, emotional resources or mental abilities).

Trauma Healing therapy can help by:

  • Recognizing and respecting those initial life-saving reactions

  • Providing you with resources to reclaim your inner power

  • Unwinding the automatic reactions in your mind, emotions and body

  • Learning new skills so that you can respond instead of react
